Desert Hills Invitational Day 1 Recap

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Through Day 1 of the Desert Hills Invitational Friday, a pair of Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network schools are hanging with the big schools at the prestigious meet.

After five scored events, the Panguitch girls’ squad has amassed 17 points, good enough for fifth place thus far.

As for the Delta boys, they are also in fifth place with 14 points. This is impressive for both the Bobcats and Rabbits as Class 6-A track power Davis is among the participating schools, as well as the always strong Region 9 schools, host Desert Hills, Cedar, Dixie, Pine View and Snow Canyon.

Presently, the leader for the girls is the Cedar Lady Reds with 44 points, with Desert Hills close behind at 43 points.

The Desert Hills boys are in the lead with 33 points, well ahead of second place Westalke with 25.5 points.

In the girls’ 1600-meter run, Panguitch’s Taylia Norris placed ninth overall, in a time of 5:24.55.

The Panguitch girls also placed fifth overall in the medley, in a time of 4:36.10. The Bobcats’ medley team consists of Kapri Orton, Abbey Blevins, Tana Frandsen and Taylia Norris.

As for the boys, Panguitch’s medley also had a strong showing by finishing in sixth place, posting a time of 4:02.57. This team consists of Boston Engelstead, Kevin Bridges, Kanyon Lamb and Trevor Wolfley.

The meet will resume Saturday at 9:00 am.
