BYU Wins 6th Consecutive WCC Commissioner’s Cup

SAN JOSE, Calif.-Thursday, the Brigham Young University athletic department won the 2017-18 West Coast Conference Commissioner’s Cup for the sixth consecutive season.

This trophy is awarded to the WCC Institution enjoying the most collective success in the various sports it sponsors during conference play.

This win for the Cougars sees them surpass the San Diego Toreros’ athletic department in this category as USD won five straight commissioners’ cups from 2008-2012

The Cougars amassed 94 points in the overall standings, surpassing second-place Loyola Marymount as the Lions netted 89 points.

This distinction occurred Wednesday night as part of the festivities of the ninth-annual West Coast Conference honors dinner at the Dolce Hayes Mansion of San Jose, Calif.

The Cougars won this title by virtue of their league championships in men’s cross country, women’s golf and softball. A co-championship in women’s volleyball and a runner-up showing in women’s cross country also bolstered the Cougars’ credentials.

For the sixth consecutive year, the BYU women won in their sphere, posting 58.5 points, again besting Loyola Marymount as the Lions finished close behind with 56.5 points.

The Cougars did not win the all-men sports trophy as the San Francisco Dons surpassed them with 37.5 points, getting their first win since 2010. The Cougars were second with 35 points.
