BYU Men’s Basketball Hosts Northwestern State Tuesday

PROVO, Utah-Tuesday, BYU men’s basketball hosts Northwestern State of the Southland Conference as part of the Men Against Breast Cancer Cougar Cup at the Marriott Center.

Later on this week, the Cougars will also host the Rice Owls and the Houston Cougars ( head coach Dave Rose’s alma mater) in other games in the Cougar Cup series.

The Cougars will meet the Demons for the third time in history Tuesday with the Cougars leading the all-time series 2-0

Northwestern State is coached by Mike McConathy who has led the Demons to the NCAA Tournament on two occasions, including a memorable 2006 upset of Big Ten foe Iowa in the first round that year.

McConathy says he is concerned about BYU primarily because they “have size and shoot the ball extremely, extremely well.”

He is 285-302 (.486) in 20 years at the helm in Natchitoches, La.

The Demons come into this game at 1-0, having suffered a 69-58 defeat at Southern Methodist in the season opener November 8.  In that game, Northwestern State was led by 6-8 senior forward/ center Ishmael Lane, who posted 24 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to the Mustangs.
