BYU Football Hosts Northern Illinois For First Meeting in History

PROVO, Utah-Saturday, BYU football returns to action after their bye week by hosting Northern Illinois.

Both the Cougars and the Huskies, who represent the Mid-American Conference, come into this tilt at LaVell Edwards Stadium with 4-3 records.

While BYU and Northern Illinois have never met on the gridiron, the Huskies do have experience against schools from Utah.

Earlier this season, the Huskies hosted Utah at home, losing 17-6 to the Utes at DeKalb, Ill. September 8.

While the Cougars have turned the reins over to freshman QB Zach Wilson, he’s not the only one. BYU has played 25 freshmen this season, including 15 true freshmen.

The MAC has traditionally been one of the best non-power 5 conferences in FBS college football and Northern Illinois is one of the flagship programs of this conference.

The Huskies have been in the MAC in modern times since 1997 and have won 12 conference titles in that span.

Northern Illinois is led by signal-caller Marcus Childers (118-214, 949 yards, 8 TD’s/5 INT’s), receiver D.J. Brown (36, rec, 327 yards, 3 TD’s) and tailback Tre Harbison (90 car, 442 yards, 3 TD’s).

Both the Cougars and Huskies are coming off of byes. The Huskies are one of three opponents for BYU this season whom the Cougars face coming off of a bye.

Earlier this season, Utah State had one, and later on, New Mexico State will have had one before facing the Cougars.
