BYU Football Celebrates Senior Day Against New Mexico State

PROVO, Utah-Saturday, BYU football celebrates Senior Day by hosting the New Mexico State Aggies at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

The Cougars will honor 25 seniors prior to kickoff against the Aggies, who hail from Las Cruces, N.M.

This series dates back to 2011, with the Cougars leading all-time 2-0.

This is also a special game for BYU radio analyst Marc Lyons who will be doing his final broadcast from LaVell Edwards Stadium. Lyons first analyzed a BYU football game September 6, 1980 while working alongside the late legendary broadcaster Paul James.

The Cougars, who come into this game at 5-5, need a win to secure bowl eligibility and have given freshmen a golden opportunity to contribute to their cause.

BYU has played 27 freshmen this season, including 17 true freshmen. Freshmen have also scored 49.8 percent of BYU’s points this season (116 of the 233 net points on the season).

New Mexico State is led by quarterback Josh Adkins (168-278, 1,986 yards, 11 TD’s/6 INT’s), tailbacks Christian Gibson (83 car, 538 yards, 6 TD’s) and Jason Huntley (94 car, 446 yards, 7 TD’s; 44 rec, 516 yards, 3 TD’s) and receiver Johnathan Boone (48 rec, 584 yard, 3 TD’s).

Defensive lineman Cedric Wilcots II (6 sacks, 7.5 tackles for a loss) is New Mexico state’s defensive leader.
