BYU Baseball Players Get Drafted as MLB Draft Winds Down

PROVO, Utah-Wednesday, as the MLB Draft continued, a pair of BYU players were drafted, keeping their big league dreams alive.

Shortstop Daniel Schneeman was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 33rd round with the #1,003rd overall pick. With the Cougars, the Chula Vista, Calif. native has amassed a .288 batting average, 76 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

Additionally, with the #1,111th overall pick in the 37th round, the Los Angeles Angels selected BYU catcher David Clawson.

The 6’1″ 205-pound catcher is a sophomore out of Dana Point, Calif. and has posted a .280 batting average in his career with the Cougars along with 39 RBI and 38 runs scored.

Should Clawson stay with the Angels’ organization, the chance exists he will be seen multiple times by BYU fans as the Salt Lake Bees are the Angels’ Triple A affiliate and the Orem Owlz are the Angels’ rookie affiliate.

The Owlz will commence their season June 15 at Grand Junction.
