Utah voters report unauthorized changes to registrations

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State election officials are investigating reports of unauthorized changes to some voters’ political parties on their voter registrations.

The Deseret News reports members of the United Utah Party including the young party’s first congressional candidate Jim Bennett reported that their voter registrations were changed to unaffiliated or Republican Party.

Bennett, who serves as the United Utah Party’s spokesman, says the move has made the party look smaller than it actually is.

State Elections Director Justin Lee says his office will look into the issues.

Bennett says Lee told party members last week that the changes were clerical errors made by county clerks offices.
