Utah unemployment rate declines to 3 percent in February

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah’s unemployment rate dropped slightly in February as 42,400 jobs were added to the state’s nonfarm economy.

The Department of Workforce Services’ monthly report Friday says the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 3.0 percent in February from 3.1 percent in January.

Chief Economist Carrie Mayne says February had healthy job growth and low unemployment, showing what she called “moderate, sustainable growth” over the past several years.

The department says eight of the 10 private-sector industry groups measured by its survey posted net job increases in February, led by 10,400 additional jobs in trade, transportation and utilities.
