SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is calling the Legislature into a special session to approve revisions for a planned massive shipping hub in Salt Lake City.
Herbert said at a press conference Monday that lawmakers will return to the Capitol Wednesday to vote on the plan, reached after negotiations with members of the Salt Lake City Council.
He said the plan would respond to locals’ concern by reducing the facility’s size and adjusting tax provisions.
The plan appears to have been reached without support from Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, who is a Democrat and has voiced objections to the proposed facility. She and other critics have called it a power grab by Republican state officials.
Biskupski’s spokesman said she would review the new plan and accused lawmakers of rushing through the process.
