Utah agencies sending crews to fight California wildfires

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake City Fire Department is among more than a half-dozen Utah agencies sending firefighters and three engines to help battle wildfires in California.

Chief Karl Lieb says his department is proud to join other thousands of firefighters who have been working tirelessly to save lives, protect property and control the fires.

Lieb says the deployment Thursday of 11 firefighters and three engines to California won’t diminish his own department’s ability to respond to local needs in Salt Lake City.

According to Lieb’s department, its personnel and equipment will convoy to California with crews from Draper Fire, Murray Fire, Lone Peak Fire, Provo Fire, Uintah City Fire and West Valley City Fire. For what is expected to be a three-week deployment.
