UDOT reminds drivers of winter driving safety

As a winter storm moves through Utah this week, officials want to remind drivers to drive extra careful.

Kevin Kitchen, communications specialist for UDOT region four, says drivers need to be  cautions around snow plows.

“Please, please, please let the snow plows do their job and give them the space,” Kitchen says. “It’s such a difficult thing to drive those machines.”

Kitchen also says there are a lot of resources now with cameras and apps to be prepared before traveling in a storm. Drivers should be prepared in snowy passes to put on chains and have other winter driving tools in their car.

“We have real issues when we get to the tops of these canyons and people are unprepared and it can plug things up for a lot of folks.”

Forecasters expect a storm to bring rain on Wednesday and Thursday in the valleys, with snow in the mountains. Snow is then expected throughout Utah Friday.
