Slain woman’s family plans to pressure police for answers

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The family of a Mexican woman found dead in Provo are in Utah to meet with and pressure investigators to solve the case.

KUTV-TV reports the mother, father, and two uncles of Elizabeth Elena Laguna Salgado arrived Tuesday night at Salt Lake City International Airport. It’s the family’s first time in Utah since Salgado’s remains were found last month.

The 26-year-old Salgado, of Chiapas, Mexico, was found in Hobble Creek Canyon. She had been missing since April 16, 2015, when she was last seen walking home from her English language class.

The family is set to speak with detectives and visit the site where Salgado’s remains were discovered.

Officials with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and Provo police say Salgado’s death is considered suspicious.

Authorities say they are interviewing “persons of interests.”
