Sevier County Search and Rescue Rescues Injured Paraglider

The Sevier County Search and Rescue team was called to assist a man that was injured in a paragliding accident on Friday.

According to a report from Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis Nathan LeFevers, 34, of Oklahoma was paragliding when he slammed into the rocky cliffs of Glen-Anna Hill east of Richfield.

LeFevers brother was watching him, but lost sight of him when he went around a ridge. It took his brother about an hour to locate him before Search and Rescue was called.

The call for help came at 7:54 pm Friday, May 5 and because of how difficult the location was to get to and the lack of daylight the rescue wasn’t completed until after 11:00 pm.

Deputies, EMT’s and rescuers had to walk up the face of the hill to get to LeFevers and were able to stabilize him long enough to carry him back up the cliff to an awaiting medical helicopter.

The report states that LeFevers sustained multiple injuries to his lower extremities, including compound fractures. A tourniquet had to be used to control the bleeding.

He was flown to Utah County for further medical attention.

LeFevers family members reported that he will make a full recovery and not suffer any permanent damage.

Sheriff Curtis also wanted to give a shout out to the first responders who made the call a success in saving the life of LeFevers.
