Salina City turns irrigation water back on, with restrictions

Irrigation water is available in Salina City after the water was shut off earlier in July.

According to a post on the Salina City Facebook page, the irrigation pond is now at a safe level to have the water turned back into the lines.

A strict watering schedule has been put in place with the threat of possible fines for those who don’t follow it.

The watering schedule is as follows:

* If your address (house number) is odd you will water on Wednesday and Sunday.

* If your address (house number) is even you will water on Tuesday and Saturday.

* NO watering will be permitted on Monday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s regardless of house numbers.

* On days that you’re allowed to water, there will be no watering between the hours of 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Officers will be actively patrolling and citing citizens that do not abide by the new changes.

We would also like to remind the citizens of the criminal charges and fines you could face if you are found to be watering at unauthorized times as per the city code:

A.Use of the pressurized irrigation system on days or during times where such use has been prohibited by the city council shall constitute an infraction punishable as follows:

1. The first offense shall be punishable by a fine of twenty-five dollars ($25.00).

2. The second offense shall be punishable by a fine of fifty dollars ($50.00).

3. Any subsequent offenses shall be punishable by a fine of more than fifty dollars ($50.00) but not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) punishable as a Class B misdemeanor.

B. For purposes of this section, second and subsequent offenses shall be those occurring during a given watering season and an offense in one watering season shall not be carried forward to the following year.
