Roads closed in Zion National Park after flash floods

Roads are closed in Zion National Park after flash flooding Wednesday.

After receiving 3 inches of rain in a short amount of time, Zion has been experiencing several rock and debris slides on the switchbacks below the tunnel.

The road has been closed indefinitely between Canyon Junction and the East Entrance. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is also currently closed.

The Zion- Mount Carmel Highway remains closed as trail crews work to remove debris from mudslides Thursday.

The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive has reopened to shuttles and lodge guests. However, shuttles are only able to go as far as the Grotto Shuttle Stop before turning around. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is closed above the Grotto. Visitors are not allowed to walk the road.

Road crews will assess the damage before removing the debris, making repairs, and reopening roadways.
