Officials expect to fully contain wildfire by Thursday

VERNAL, Utah (AP) — Officials say they expect full containment of wildfire in northeastern Utah by Thursday night.

The Deseret News reports the wildfire began Saturday afternoon about 20 miles (32.2 kilometers) north of Vernal and wildlife officials say it has consumed 0.81 square miles (2.1 square kilometers).

Bureau of Land Management information officer Heather O’Hanlon said Monday “fire behavior is at a minimum.”

The agency reported 50 percent containment late Monday afternoon.

Officials say their priority is to stop movement toward the Dry Fork community. Sawtooth Ridge will be heavily monitored until the fire is out of the vicinity.

Officials say the blaze posed no threat to homes or structures in the area.
