New wildfire burning in Sanpete County forces evacuations

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 12 P.M.: The Hilltop fire is continuing to grow in Sanpete County.

The fire grew Tuesday to more than 1,400 acres with 0 percent containment.

Residents in the Milburn area will be allowed back with a pre-evacuation notice Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

TUESDAY 1:30 A.M.: Officials now believe the Hilltop fire is human caused. Witnesses are cooperating with the Sheriff’s office Tuesday.

Pre-evacuation notices have been put out for portions of Hideaway Valley. Pre evacuation means homeowners need to be ready to leave and pay attention to fire conditions.

TUESDAY 8 A.M.: The Hilltop fire is continuing at over 1,000 acres with 0 percent containment.

50 homes have been evacuated with more pre-evacuation orders coming soon in the Milburn area. Over 150 structures are threatened according to officials.

The fire is moving in every direction, but firefighters are directing crews to directly attack on the North side.

Some structures have been lost, but they have not been identified yet.

EVACUATIONS: Black Hawk Estates, and areas North of Hilltop Road and West of Milburn Road are under mandatory evacuations.

A wildfire burning in Sanpete County has forced the evacuation of the Blackhawk estates near Milburn.

The Hilltop fire is estimated at 500 acres after it began around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon. Crews have 0 percent containment.

According to the Forest Service, the fire is burning all on private land. No structures have burned as of 7:30 p.m., but several homes are threatened.

Crews are using several helicopters and other air resources, as well as dossers.
