Mt. Pleasant man sentenced to jail for sexting teen

A Mt. Pleasant man will spend 45 days in the Sanpete County Jail for his role in enticing a minor through text messages.  Bradford Bentley was a teacher at North Sanpete High School when he sent sexually explicit messages to a 16-year old student in March.  He was fired by the district, and a Class A Misdemeanor charge was filed against him.  He pleaded guilty at his initial appearance, saying he wished to take responsibility for his actions, and a pre-sentence investigation was ordered.  Bentley’s attorney asked Judge Wallace Lee for leniency with regard to the 45 days in jail recommended in the report because her client had accepted responsibility for his actions, and she said it would impact his new job.  However, even though Judge Lee told Bentley his actions don’t have to define the rest of his life, he also emphasized this type of action by someone in a special position of trust cannot be tolerated.  He then sentenced Bentley to serve the 45 days, beginning immediately.  Bentley will also serve 36 months supervised probation upon his release.
