Man with Black-Powder Rifle Causes Brief Scare in Monroe

Some are breathing a sigh of relief after a man in Monroe was seen walking near the elementary school with a gun yesterday. Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis said a call came in about a man with a gun at the school. Deputies responded to the call and found that the man was carrying an unloaded black-powder rifle. The man was walking to his home from an area business and the school was along the route. Deputies informed him of his proximity to the school and let him continue on his way.
