Man rescued from mine shaft using rope and pulley system

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A video shows how a man was rescued from a mine shaft where he spent the night after falling down about 90 feet while riding his off-road vehicle.

The footage shows the man climbing out of the large dirt hole Sunday using a rope and pulley system set up by emergency responders. The video was released Monday by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

The man emerges wearing a red helmet and a little shaky but ok. Authorities say the man suffered some head injuries but nothing major.

The man was riding a utility task vehicle, commonly known as a UTV, early Sunday west of Eagle Mountain when he and his vehicle fell into the mine shaft about 90 feet.

It took search and rescue teams several hours to pull him out.
