Former Fayette Town clerk pleads guilty to embezzlement

A former Fayette Town clerk pleaded guilty on Wednesday to three 3rd degree felony counts of misuse of public money.  Tracy Kay Mellor was arrested on July 5 and charged with nine felony counts dating from 2014 and 2015; however, during the investigation, it was discovered that over $220,000 had been taken over the course of a decade.  Mellor quit her job in January after a confrontation with new Mayor Brenda Liefson over two missing checks.  That’s when the Mayor began reviewing the town’s bank statements and discovered discrepancies going back years.  The court accepted Mellor’s three guilty pleas, and the six remaining felonies were dismissed.  Mellor will be sentenced on November 21 following a pre-sentence investigation by Adult Probation and Parole.
