SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A temporary easement has allowed Zion National Park to temporarily resume issuing permits for use of a popular trail through the Virgin River Narrows that were discontinued Tuesday after private landowners posted “no trespassing” signs in the popular canyon.
Park officials on Friday announced that the landowners granted a temporary recreational access license to Washington County, allowing the resumption of permitting for use of the 16-mile (26-kilometer) Zion Narrow Trails starting Saturday.
Park Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh says the landowners’ goodwill and county officials’ efforts are appreciated and that discussions are underway “to secure a more permanent solution.”
The no-trespassing signs invited buyers to purchase over 1 mile (1.6 kilometer) of the narrows. It advertised 1 square mile (3 sq. kilometer) with water resort potential.
