PROVO, Utah (AP) — The family of a 2-year-old girl killed in an April crash in Provo has forgiven a driver whose utility truck smashed into the family’s vehicle, and he has been sentenced to one day in jail along with two years of probation and 400 hours of community service.
The Daily Herald reports that 38-year-old Rick Davis Winder of Orem was sentenced Thursday in state District Court after he pleaded guilty in October to negligent homicide in the death of Chelsea Parkinson.
Winder was given credit for the day he already served in jail immediately after the crash.
Caitlin Parkinson said her daughter “hated whenever anyone was mad,” and the mother and her husband hugged Winder outside court after both families wiped away tears and whispered thank-hours in the courtroom.
