Bradley J. Cook named 17th president of Snow College

The Utah Board of Regents has unanimously selected Bradley J. Cook as the seventeenth president of Snow College.

“Dr. Cook is a nationally respected scholar and dynamic leader in higher education,” said Harris Simmons, Chair of the Board of Regents. “His experience, vision, and dedication to academic excellence will ensure Snow College continues to thrive in the years ahead.”

President Cook was selected after a 22-member presidential search committee, co-chaired by Regent Mark Stoddard and Snow College Trustee Chair Scott Bushnell, narrowed an extensive pool of applicants to four finalists.

“President Cook first arrived at Snow’s campus as a freshman a number of years ago. Now Snow College will greatly benefit from his significant experience in higher education and strong commitment to student success,” added Dave Buhler, Utah Commissioner of Higher Education.

Bradley J. Cook is the Provost at Southern Utah University, and is an alum of Snow College and a native of central Utah. He has worked to establish SUU as a national leader in student-centric, highly applied learning environments, and has advanced an agenda of internationalizing the university. Under his leadership, SUU has achieved record high student success rates, created over 25 new academic programs and centers, and elevated SUU’s academic reputation as one of the premier public regional universities in the Intermountain West. Prior to his current position, he served as President of the Abu Dhabi Women’s College in the United Arab Emirates, and eight years at then-Utah Valley State College as Vice President of College Relations and later as Vice President of Academic Affairs. Cook has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Stanford University and a doctorate from the University of Oxford.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead Snow College, and I thank the Board of Regents and the search committee for their confidence in me,” said President Cook. “I will work to ensure the College remains student-centered and focused on providing a high-quality, affordable experience, in addition to emphasizing its role as an economic driver for Central Utah and the state as a whole. I look forward to working with Snow College students, faculty, staff, board of trustees, alumni, and the broader community to advance the important work of the College.”

Last summer, current Snow College President Gary L. Carlston announced his intention to retire at the end of the academic year. He will stay on as president until May 17, 2019.
