Body of hiker found after fall from Zion National Park trail

ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) — Authorities have recovered the body of a man who apparently fell to his death while hiking in Zion National Park in southern Utah.

Park spokesman John Marciano says other visitors hiking the West Rim Trail in Refrigerator Canyon found the man’s body Friday morning.

Marciano says a preliminary investigation indicates the body’s injuries were consistent with a high from a high elevation, possibly from the Angels Landing Trail.

Rangers in 2011 made safety improvements to the Angels Landing Trail, including adding warning signs, more chains for hikers to grip while climbing and more steps carved into the rock.

Marciano says authorities believe the man was around 45 years old and hiking alone.

His identity was not released, and cause of death remained under investigation.
