Algae bloom forces closure of Panguitch Lake

Panguitch Lake is closed until further notice because of a toxic algae bloom in the water.

The Southwestern Utah Health Department closed the lake Monday with extremely high toxin levels detected in the water.

Health officials advise humans and their pets to stay out of the lake because any contact with elevated levels of the toxin could cause serious health issues.

Livestock operators are also being warned to keep their animals from drinking from any water downstream of the lake.
