8 Hospitalized After Trailer Hauling Hay Tips Over Near Sigurd

SIGURD, Utah (Ksl.com), Per a report from KSL.com, Sunday morning, eight were hospitalized after a trailer carrying hay bales tipped and rolled near Sigurd as confirmed by the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 10:30 am MDT Sunday morning near Sigurd on S.R. 24 as a pickup truck pulling a fifth-wheel trailer loaded with hay bales was driving northbound, UHP stated.

The hay bales were not securely placed in the trailer, causing it to shift, ultimately resulting in it tipping over, UHP confirmed. As the trailer rolled, it impacted two vehicles headed southbound.

Both vehicles had four occupants, while all eight were injured and transported, via ambulance, to Sevier Valley Hospital in Richfield, UHP stated.

UHP also confirmed that the two people who were most severely injured were later flown to trauma centers by medical helicopter.

This resulted in S.R. 24’s temporary closure while patients were transported and the trailer was removed.

Troopers advised drivers to drive cautiously through the area, stating that the hay had become scattered along the shoulder of the highway and could possibly attract wildlife, such as deer or elk.
