Echo State Park Opens

 

ECHO STATE PARK – The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that Echo State Park will be opening to the public on Saturday, May 12, 2018. 

While walk-in access has been available over the transition period to Utah State Parks, this will be the first time Echo will be open to vehicles and those wanting to camp or launch boats out of the main marina area since management has changed hands. 

Since the transition, it has been the goal to open to the public before peak season. Now, thanks to some hard work and planning, Park Manager Eric Bradshaw said, it’s actually going to happen. 

“We are really excited to get things going here at the park,” Bradshaw said. “This is something we’ve been looking forward to.” 

The gate will open at the park at 7 a.m. Saturday. The boat ramp and dock will also be available for those wanting to launch their vessels for some fun on the water. 

Day use fees for the park are set at $12 per vehicle. Senior day use is $6 and walk-in/bike access is $4. 

Echo State Park will also be accepting the Utah State Parks Annual Day Use Pass, and will also be selling them to visitors who would like to purchase one. 

At the time of this posting, the restroom facilities remain closed and under maintenance. However, there will be portable restroom facilities available to park visitors until the traditional ones open.

Camping and watercraft rentals at Echo will be managed by the Echo Marina concessionaire at this time. Visit their website to book a campsite or rent a vessel.

Get free Fire Alarms with the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign

 

As part of the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign the Red Cross here in Utah is now installing free smoke alarms to anyone who requests them with absolutely no cost or obligation.  Everyone qualifies to participate in this free ongoing program.   This is on an appointment basis arranged by calling the Hotline number below.  While there, Red Cross volunteers will also visit with residents to discuss home fire safety including drafting a home fire evacuation plan.  The Red Cross will install up to 3 alarms as needed while checking any current alarms that may need batteries or complete replacement.

New smiles for Veterans

New Smiles for Veterans is an organization to help veterans receive basic dental care since it is not provided through the Office of Veteran Affairs.

Dentists are also needed to provide services.

Grief Support Group

Intermountain Sanpete Valley Hospital offers a grief support group for anyone needing help coping with the loss of a loved one. The group meets once a month on the third Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the basement conference room at Intermountain Sanpete Valley Hospital.

Sanpete Food Pantry

The Sanpete Pantry needs volunteers Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Family, church and Scout groups can call to arrange a time to volunteer.

The Sanpete Pantry is located at 1080 S. Blackhawk Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant and is open to the public for donations from 10-5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday.

CLICK for Babies:
Period of PURPLE Crying Caps Campaign
CLICK for Babies is a grassroots public education campaign organized by the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) in partnership with hospitals, public health, and child abuse prevention groups to create awareness of the leading trigger for infant abuse, frustration with infant crying.

During the campaign, communities all across North America donate handmade caps stitched in all shades of purple. Along with these caps, new parents receive a video, booklet, and bedside information describing the Period of PURPLE Crying (a period of time when infant crying increases; beginning when babies are about two weeks old, peaking in the second month and ending around the third to fifth month).

The collaboration and coordination it takes to make the caps, distribute them to hospitals, and deliver them to parents provides a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole community together in an effort to raise awareness about this important issue.

What’s in a Name – Why “CLICK” for Babies?
The name comes from the well known “clicking” sound that knitters and crafters make with their needles as they create their works of art. Also, much of the campaign’s excitement and awareness is generated through social media when people “click” the keys on their computers to gain and share information.

THE GOAL
The goal of the CLICK for Babies campaign is to increase awareness and educate others about the Period of PURPLE Crying that all infants go through, how to respond to prolonged crying, and the importance of never shaking your child – all in an effort to prevent the shaking and abuse of infants.
